Tsukiji Fish Market relocation postponed
News | 08/09/2016
The relocation of the Tsukiji Fish Market to Toyosu (2 km southeast of the current site) has been postponed. Ms. Yuriko Koike, the Tokyo Metropolitan Governor, decided to reschedule the transfer for 3 reasons.
1. Soil contamination
2. Problem of durability of the new buildings
3. Soaring construction costs
Experts already raised the above-mentioned problems in the past but the Government ignored those concerns and decided to go on.
It is not sure yet when the transfer will take place but it is unlikely that it happens within the next 2 years.
At least it is good we get to enjoy the current market a bit more, isn't it!
