Our Story
Nippon Travel Agency was founded in 1905 and was the first agency to start travel operations in Japan.
Today, we have 5,061 staff members (the whole NTA group) with over 250 branch offices both in Japan and overseas, providing travel services of the highest standard. With over 100 years of history, NTA is recognized as the leading travel agency to offer a wide range of services for our valued clients.
The International Travel Division was established in 1961 as an inbound department. In these years, our services keep expanding and evolving, in order to provide the best for our valued customers.
1905
- Foundation of Nippon Travel Agency (NTA)
- Nippon Travel Agency (NTA) launched its business in 1905 as the first travel agency in Japan.
1961
- Start of International Travel Division
- Our inbound department, International Travel Division (ITD), was established as the first specialist of Japanese inbound business.
1964
- Summer Olympics in Tokyo
1965
- Start of oversea office
- We started our first overseas office in Hawaii.
1972
- Start of sales of Red Balloon
- Our first travel package brand, Red Balloon, began sales this year, providing convenient and a wide variety of tours and travel activities, covering different travel purposes.
1989
- Expansion into oversea markets
- We established a number of overseas branch offices in the USA, Canada and Australia, to build a strong connection and collect needs directly from local people.
Today, we expanded our services to other regions like China, Indonesia and France as well.
2005
- We celebrated the 100th anniversary of our founding!
2018
- Renamed to Inbound Travel Department (ITD)
- International Travel Division renamed to Inbound Travel Department. After over 50 years of business, we continue to provide high quality services to assist travelers visiting Japan from all over the world.
